Obtaining a valid work permit is a prerequisite for international employee transfer. Visa matters should be resolved early on, so that the intended time frame for transferring employees can be met, and because there are caps on some visa categories. The following visa types are possible:

• B1 Geschäftsvisum
• L1/L2 intra-company transfer visa
• E1/E2 investor visa
• H1-B visa for temporary stays
• Permanent Resident (Greencard)

The U.S. subsidiary is normally the applicant (sponsor) of the visa. The firm employs three specialist lawyers who are exclusively involved in preparing visa applications. After inspecting the personal documents of the employee to be transferred (passport, CV, etc.) they select the right type of visa and then make a checklist for the necessary documents. A flat fee is quoted for all visa applications.
