Trade Law, Import and Export Control
Due to its many years of experience with clients involved in these areas, the firm has developed particular expertise in the following trade regulations relevant to import and export.
The customs and import regulations govern the administrative procedure with the customs authorities and the classification of imported goods. Incorrect classification can lead to collection of additional duties or fines. We can help you with applications for classification of your goods (rulings) and with protests against individual rulings by the customs authorities.
The Export Control Act, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) concern the export of military goods and products that affect the national security interests of the United States. These include contracts for international development work and exchange of information. These must be drafted in such a way that they comply with the applicable law, and we can then submit them on your behalf to the relevant authorities for approval.
Sometimes a representative is needed for the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). This authority issues export licenses for export goods in countries that are subject to security-related legal restrictions.
